CULVER CITY, CA – The Culver City Minicipal Pool, better known as The Plunge, is tentatively scheduled to reopen Monday, March 11 if weather permits, Culver City officials announced.

The Plunge was unexpectedly closed on Feb. 24 when staff discovered broken glass shattered on the pool deck and in the pool. The City decided to close the pool for cleaning and maintenance "out of an abundance of caution," the Culver City press release said.

"While this emergency situation is unfortunate and the closure unscheduled, staff is working diligently to minimize the impact on the community," officials said.

Staff will drain and clean the pool, as well as make as many repairs to the pool and locker room as possible before the opening. The staff has worked "exceedingly hard" to reschedule the locker room project, which was initially scheduled for March 18 to April 7, during the pool's closure in order to minimize the amount of time The Plunge is closed, officials said.

The pool will need to be closed for an additional three days – sometime between March 18 and April 7 – to replace the pool pump and motor, but those dates are yet to be determined.

"At this time, the City does not have information that indicates whether Sunday’s incident was a malicious act/vandalism," the press release said. "We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding as city staff work to reopen The Plunge."
