Romance is on the Menu at L'Ami in Brentwood

This French-Mediterranean find is worth discovering

Nestled in the nook of Brentwood is a fabulous find. L’Ami is not only romantic, but boasts a welcoming patio, an indoor fireplace, and serves some delightful French-Mediterranean cuisine.

Although I love all the groovy hot spots in Santa Monica, sometimes you just want to get away from it all. L’Ami fits the bill.

Inside, I was taken back to some of my many travels to Europe, where time slows, people talk, and food becomes the focus of conversation. How refreshing.

Parisian owner Marc-Antoine Rambaud has created a special place with L’ Ami. Showcasing seasonal organic selections, the menu reflects a combination of Marc-Antoine's childhood culinary experience and the influence of French born chef Francis Bey, leader of the culinary team and former executive chef/owner at Lilly's French Restaurant on Abbott Kinney in Venice.

It was a tough decision, but I’m a sucker for scallops, and L’Ami delivers a home run with Day Boat Scallops, crusted with sesame, accompanied with wild rice, piperade of vegetable and pesto coulis.

I felt a bit jealous as one of my carnivorous companions ordered the Rack of Lamb, with potato gratin, haricot vert, and rosemary infusion. I don’t care much for lamb, but I would make an exception based on the presentation of this dish.

Favored appetizers included the Salmon Tartar with endive, mango, scallions and salmon caviar, as well as the Beets & Burrata Tower, sandwiched with baby arugula, candied walnuts and basil coulis.

I couldn’t decide on which dessert I preferred, but the Lemon Cheesecake did a back flip for me, satiating, and sliding down with ease.

If you’re tired of the Westside traffic and want a little audible conversation, make the trek to L’Ami. Time will finally stand still, and you won’t need your cell phone for company.
