The Simpson House Inn-Opulent Charm in Santa Barbara
Take a trip back in time at this charming Santa Barbara B&B
Sometimes you just have to get away from it all. Sometimes you just don’t want to be on the cutting edge of anything, and when that mood strikes, we head to the The Simpson House Inn of Santa Barbara, ushering us back in time to 1874.
Just a short walk away from the bustling pace of State Street, lies this charming property, stuffed with opulent antiques and showcasing the hospitality a bygone era.
We stayed in The Tack Room, set back from the main house among a web of sprawling oaks. From our patio deck, the foliage basks you in shade, as sunlight winks at you through the branches. Woodpeckers play peek a boo by the fountain, pausing briefly for a sip from the birdbath, before they’re on their way again.

Adirondack chairs partner in pairs over an expansive lawn, with the emerald hues of the grasses spreading out like a cool green blanket. The tall hedges block out the din of the neighborhood, giving you a tranquil setting to park your thoughts, moods and dreams. Here, it’s enough just to simply relax and watch the fall of the leaves. The Simpson House Inn provides a welcomed escape from all things urban.
Enjoy the charm of their attentive staff as their culinary creations baffle your taste buds. There are no buffet breakfasts here. Sit down and get ready to be spoiled. Your name is even printed on the morning menu. Every evening, a dazzling array of appetizers and selections from local wineries are on hand to enjoy.

Of course there is free Wi-Fi and the usual top-drawer amenities to please the most discerning of travelers. Their gigantic down pillows allowed me to sleep in for the first time in many months.
