Super Awesome Sylvia, Your YouTube! Channel and You

Nickelodeon made a TV series about a teenager who made her own web series. But do you know that EVERYONE can make their own web series?

Online video sites encourage you to create your own identity and programming.  Some of these sites get hundreds of thousands of subscribers.  Some get millions.  With a hundred thousand subscribers, you get at least tens of thousands of views on your videos - from subscribers.  From casual viewers, you get a whole bunch more.

It's virtual, I know, but still a whole lot of fun.  You get to play Media Mogul by creating your own "channel", with a channel trailer, all the videos you care to upload and playlists of those videos if you'd care to aggregate them. If you've got enough time, I believe that you can create multiple channels.

I have to say that YouTube! does a great job of presenting the videos submitted and that every video has a chance to be seen.  I know this from the observations I make about my Squigglemom YouTube! Channel about all things interesting to me.

Super Awesome Sylvia
Eleven year old Super Awesome Sylvia is doing a great job of running her own web series.  A real life iCarly. Her program, "Super Awesome Maker Show" has her making all sorts of things for her web audience.  Over 3K subscribers and a whole lot of hits (in the millions) on her videos.  She's been featured on the Make: magazine cover, been interviewed by national media, and presented at the White House Science Fair where she met President Obama.

That's Super Awesome, Sylvia!

Super Awesome Sylvia will be presenting at a special week of summer camp (along with Dr. Gary Stager) at the Exploratory Makerspace in Culver City, July 22-July 26, M-F, 9AM to 3PM.

And some whispers for you:

If you'd like to see more about Dr. Gary Stager, look out for the special post on this site!

What's your YouTube! channel going to be about?

If you like Making, mechanics, fiber, fabric and random interesting things, you should check out my Squigglemom YouTube! Channel.  Really.  Really!
