What Are Your Resolutions for 2016?
We make them. We break them. What else is new?

So, it’s that time of year again…resolutions! We make them. Then we break them. But it’s still it’s fun to try and honor them, even if we fail in our efforts.
Of course, there are the usual resolutions- to eat less, exercise more, get a better job and so forth. But I like to try to address the more difficult ones, which have changed over the years.
When I was working, I was always is worried about the future, and lamenting the past. Where’s that raise? Why didn’t that relationship work out? Will I make my quota? My life was filled with stress over things that seemed so important at the time.

But with the death of my older sister this year, and the unexpected demise of one of our pets, I am reminded that life is very fleeting, and often unpredictable.
I realize that the past has already happened, and the future may never be as we had planned it to be. Thus, I am trying to live in the present a bit more, and to extract kernel of happiness out of every day.

Even though my body is starting to break down a bit, I’m trying not to feel sorry for myself. We are all aging in different ways and at different speeds. I try to live a healthy life, and hope for the best.
Sure, I miss my heavy workouts, but I am trying to focus on the fact that I am probably in better shape than many people in my age group. I thank my elders for reminding me that life is a gift, and something that should be enjoyed every day-kind of like opening a new present on Christmas morning.
I am trying to be more patient, and less judgmental of those around me. If we attempt to change those people in our lives who get on our nerves, it is a futile task.
I feel that I need to enjoy people for who they are, not for what I would like them to be. For after all, I am sure that I drive some people crazy and get on their nerves as well.
I wish all of you a happy holiday season, and a joyous New Year. I know many of you are dealing with some very difficult challenges, and I hope you find the resolve to get through these difficult times.
As for me, I try to have a sense of humor, no matter how dismal a situation may be. The joy of laughter with my friends and family members is a great distraction, and reminds me that I am not alone on this ride down the conveyor belt.
Humor is such a great companion.
