CUPERTINO, CA — A brothel that authorities described as "busy" and that was offering sexual services to dozens of people per day was recently busted in Santa Clara County, with the owners and manager facing charges, according to officials.
"There is no room in our neighborhoods for working brothels," District Attorney Jeff Rosen said in a news release. "There is no room in Santa Clara County for the criminal exploitation of human beings."
Hummingbird Day Spa in Cupertino — which has been owned since 2022 by Lin Wang, 46, and Xian Wang, 48, both of San Jose — brought in about $700,000 annually as a brothel, according to authorities, who said the business offered sexual services to roughly 30 males daily.
The owners, as well as managing employee Rui Wang, 42, of Sunnyvale, are charged with felonies including pimping and pandering, money laundering, and tax and payroll fraud, authorities said.
The investigation started in March following reports of illegal sexual activity, according to the district attorney's office. The Wangs were underreporting payroll by over $100,000 per year, authorities said, with profits funneled through mortgage payments to properties in San Jose and Chino Hills, and through investments.
The trio was taken into custody on Sept. 10, and two women on the scene received support services from Community Solutions, according to the district attorney's office.
