Apple Makes ‘Happiest Company’ List

Workers count the opportunity to work on the company's 'quality products' as a perk..

Don’t worry, be happy. No, we’re not about to break out into song. But employees who work at Apple headquarters in Cupertino certainly seem to be singing praise for the company.

Apple is ranked No. 4 on the list of Silicon Valley’s happiest companies released this week by the San Jose Business Journal. The list was compiled from data obtained from Glassdoor.com, a website that asks people to post honest reviews of the companies they’ve worked for.

To nobody’s great surprise, the top three companies on the list are Silicon Valley tech titans Facebook, Google and Linkedin. Phrases like “free food,” “fun culture” and “smart people” were repeatedly cited in worker reviews for those companies. Reviews posted on Glassdoor also frequently rate a company’s management, work environment and product.

While Apple isn’t well-known for perks like free lunches or haircuts, worker feedback often cited the opportunity to work on Apple’s lineup of quality products as a source of satisfaction. At the same time, some workers complained about the long work hours and the company’s culture of secrecy.

Rounding out the list are Informatica, a data management software company; Shutterfly, social photo sharing service and NetApp, data storage and management company.
