De Anza Men's Basketball Prepares for Summer Showcases

The De Anza Men's Basketball looks to get some work in, as they prepare for two local summer showcases.

The De Anza Men's Basketball program's run toward the 2012-2013 season has already gotten underway, as they prepare for two local summer showcases.

Under the direction and watchful eye of Head Coach Jason Damjanovic (8th season), the Dons look to get some much needed on-court playing time, while competing in front of head and assistant coaches, from all levels, of four-year colleges and universities.

The showcases, at Skyline College (San Bruno) and Foothill College (Los Altos Hills), allow the De Anza coaching staff to evaluate incoming freshmen recruits while they play with sophomore returners. This is also an important opportunity for JC players to be seen by high level college coaches, as the players look to move on and continue their playing careers at the four-year level.

The Dons are led by sophomore guard Denzel Copeland (Santa Teresa HS) who was a 2012 All-Conference selection in the Coast Conference South.  Coach Damjanovic is looking for contributions from smooth shooting lefty Jimmy Escudero 6'3" (Modesto Christian) and 6’1” sophomore guard George Henderson.

The Dons have put together a solid recruiting class of freshmen newcomers including 6'5" wing Abu Tratter (St. Francis-Mt. View), 6'6" wing Buddy Ames (Milpitas), and 6'4" guard Shaquille Gilbert (Aquinas-San Bernardino).  Made up of primarily local talent, the list also includes, 6'5" post DeVontae Bryant (Overfelt), 6'7" post Thomas Estifanos (Independence) and 6'2" guard Deryck Ylanan (Moreau Catholic-Hayward).
