There once was a king who offered a prize to an artist who would paint the best picture of peace.

Cupetino Rotarian Suzi Blackman had a story of the real meaning of peace at our last Club meeting:
"There once was a king who offered a prize to an artist who would paint the best
picture of peace. Many artists tried and the choice came down to two. One
was a serene lake scene with peaceful mountains and blue sky - a perfect
picture of peace. The other picture had mountains as well but they were
craggy in the midst of a violent storm. Down the side of the mountain was an
angry waterfall. But visible in the back of the waterfall was a tiny bush growing
in a crack of a rock with a mother bird sitting on her nest in perfect
peace. The king choose the second picture because, said the king, peace is
not about being in a place of no noise, trouble or hard work. Peace means
being in the midst of all these things and still be calm in your heart - the
real meaning of peace. And an outlook that can be found in the service efforts
of Rotarians worlwide."
