The Great Fashion Flood
A recent dream I had about a fashionable flood and what I chose to save.
The other day our washing machine’s pipe decided to be faulty and ended up with me walking into the garage to find most things touching the ground to be soaked. That led to two hours of me and the rest of my family going through everything, drying it off, and using about a million and one towels.
Anyway, this little fiasco is what I’m guessing caused the strange dream I had that night. Since it’s fashion-related, I’ve decided to tell you all about it. Keep in mind, it was just a dream, and that I have probably subconsciously filled in the blanks with crazy things from my imagination. Here’s how it went:
It was a day like any other, I woke up, ate breakfast, and decided to go to the mall. I ended up in Nordstrom, a place I’ve been so many times that I could probably tell you which items fill each square-inch of the store. I was stolling around Level One, when all of a sudden I looked outside the glass doors and saw a giant wave forming from the parking lot. It began at five feet, then seemed to double in size, and with every second I watched the wave it was growing. Eventually it crashed down, pushing against the glass doors of the store and knocking them out of the way.

The water splashed into the building and began to rise. I was forced to think quickly, so I did what any shoe-lover would do: I ran for the Louboutins. Frantically I grabbed at their red soles until my arms were full and I couldn’t carry any more. I ran out into the mall, which for some odd reason was unaffected by the waves, and dropped the shoes. (Abandoning Louboutins in a mall was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in a dream.) The water had now completely filled the first level up to my knees, so I waded back over and grabbed the Valentino Crystal Embellished Booties, some animal print Jimmy Choo’s, Prada pumps, and Tory Burch flats.
By the time I managed to clear all of those shoes into the main mall area, the whole bottom level was flooded, so I swam up the elevator shaft onto level two. I immediately ran to save everything Burberry (seems my affinity for Burberry has invaded my dreams), and then went on an LBD-spree--dashing all over Level Two and saving hundreds of takes on the classic little black dress.

Panting and red-faced, I ran from end-to-end across the store saving all that I could until the building looked more like a designer fish tank than a store. I swam out of the store and into the mall, where the Nordstrom employees stood in disbelief. (I’m not sure why a store I love, that has designer clothes and caring employees had to get flooded by a monster wave, but hey, I have a very active-when-sleeping imagination.) I ended up receiving a medal from the head managers as well as a key to the city. The de Young museum in San Francisco even had a brief exhibit featuring the clothes I had managed to save. They even let me keep a pair of shoes, so if you happen to see a pair of black pumps with red soles walking around town, they could be mine.
Besides the whole flood part, I’d say it was a pretty nice dream. I mean, most dreams are considered a success when you walk away with a pair of Louboutins, right?
