The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page. St. Augustine
How to travel with one suitcase and 64 books.

I envy the traveler who tosses the latest paperback bestseller in their luggage at the very last moment "just in case they need something to read." Envy them, yes. Relate to them, not so much. As soon as I found out we were off to vacationland I began to get anxious.
What was I going to read? What books would I take? Did I have anything good to read? What if I got into the middle of our trip and *gasp* ran out of books! Nevermind that we were only driving one state over and the last time I checked Oregon had several bookstores and libraries. Nevermind. So while my husband packed the bike gear, I packed the books.
I brought my color Nook filled with as many free or cheap (and not so cheap, sorry honey) books as I could download, plus all my magazines subscriptions. That came to 44 books and 12 magazines total.

Then I went online to the library and checked out 12 books from the e-library and downloaded them to my other ereader that I use for library books. Then my last day of work, I checked out 8 bestsellers that I was too cheap to buy for the Nook, and didn't want to wait for them to become available through the e-library.
So on vacation I brought 8 physcial books, and a total of 56 books, and 12 magazines between my two ereaders. And yes, there was still room for clothes (and my husband.)

If you are a reader like me and live with the anxiety of running out of something good to read, I urge you to check out the Cupertino Library electronic resources and see our collection of downloadable books.
From the comfort of your home (or hotel room) you can download books on your ereader, laptop or iPad. Or you can download a book and listen to it on your iPod, or other mp3 device. You can even sign up for Summer Reading Club online (yes, even the adults!) and make all that reading count!
