Varsity Field Hockey: Monta Vista High School Defeats Branham 3-0
A short recap of the game played between Monta Vista and Branham Varsity Field Hockey.

On Nov. 1, the Monta Vista Matadors took on the Branham Bruins. In their first game with the Bruins, the Matadors only narrowly defeated them 1-0, scoring in the last five minutes. This game was played at Branham and it was there they managed to beat the Bruins 3-0.
The game started at 7:30 p.m. and unfortunately for the Bruins, it was their senior game.
At the beginning of the game, neither team was able to completely control the ball; with it being in both of the teams’ defensive circles for the majority of the first half.

However, near the end of the half, the Matadors had a strong offensive surge and were able to score twice. The first goal was by senior Dani Beiser. Eighteen minutes in, she was able to place the ball over the goalie, who had made an early dive. She was assisted by fellow senior, Justine Young. The second goal was by sophomore Sarah Im, who on a 1-on-1 with the goalie cleverly placed it in the corner after receiving a pass from senior Hannah DeBaets.
In the second half, the Bruins fiercely attacked the Matador cage in hopes of redemption; however they were shut out of the circle by the Matador’s strong defense. The ball was mainly in the Bruin’s defensive side second half, and 13 minutes in sophomore Sarah Im scored yet another goal, assisted again by senior Hannah DeBaets.
