Varsity Field Hockey: Monta Vista Loses to Cupertino 1-0
A short recap of Monta Vista's game against Cupertino.
On Nov. 3, the Monta Vista Matadors played the Cupertino Pioneers in their final game of the season.
Both teams played hard, but in the end the Pioneers came forward as the dominating force, beating the Matadors 1-0.
At the beginning of the first half, the Matador defense was shaky and it was then junior Jackie Ballin was able to score on them, sending the ball into the corner of the goal. The rest of the first half, the play was evenly split between the Matador and Pioneer sides.

At the start of the second half, the Matadors were still behind 1-0; however their play increased exponentially with the ball being in the Pioneer’s defensive half the majority of the time. The Matadors had many opportunities to score that half; however most of the shots went wide, were deflected by the Cupertino goalie Colleen Sengstock or blocked by the Pioneer defense.
The Matadors had many offensive openings, with 13 short corners, however they were not able to get any in the goal, which led to their unfortunate defeat.
