Victory for Cupertino Citizens...and Everyone Else
Sandhill drops residential addition from its Main Street project

At tonight's Cupertino Planning Commission meeting, Sandhill Properties made a surprising move and removed the residential units from its Main Street project application.
Perhaps it wasn't so surprising if you were at the meeting. A large number of residents filled the auditorium and were unified behind one purpose: Keep our community and our schools strong. In anticipation of our unified community momentum, Sandhill decided to proceed with a project that consists of senior housing, retail, office, restaurant, and park, but without the residential units that they tried to squeeze in earlier in an amendment.
There are still many issues facing Main Street project, such as traffic and parcelization. But tonight's meeting was a victory, not just for our community, but for everyone else. Sandhill will build a facility that the community wants, and everyone benfits.
