Wreaths Across America honor our nation's Veterans

Saturday morning, at noon E.S.T. and 9AM P.S.T., hundreds of thousands of wreaths were laid on tombstones across America. Over 1000 were placed at Saratoga's Madronia Cemetery by members of our community.
Begun in 1992 by Morrill Worcester of Worcester Wreaths, Wreaths Across America honors our country's Veterans. When his wreath business found a surplus of wreaths toward the end of the holiday season, Mr. Worcester remembered a stunning visit to Arlington National Cemetery he made as a 12 year old. He was reminded of the values of this nation and the many Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. Support from local businesses helped Mr. Worcester to have wreaths trucked to and placed at Arlington. By 2010, Wreaths Across America's national network of volunteers laid over 220,000 memorial wreaths across the United States. Saturday morning, the number of wreaths laid was over 400,000. In Saratoga's Madronia Cemetery, volunteers laid 1020 wreaths in honor of our Veterans. The event was attended by Veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. A wreath was laid in honor of POWs and those listed still as MIA. Representatives from the Civil Air Patrol, Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution (Santa Clara Chapter), Children of the American Revolution, and the American Legion held a moment of silence, listened to Taps, and then placed wreaths on tombstones. Children as young as four walked alongside Veterans in their eighties. Community members wanting to honor military service were thankful for the opportunity to place these wreaths.
