Coroner IDs Peninsula Motorcyclist Killed In Hit-And-Run On I-880

Law enforcement still hunting driver of black Dodge Charger or Challenger with retro-style wrap around tail lights.

A 29-year-old motorcyclist struck and killed by a car that fled on Interstate Highway 880 in Milpitas Saturday night has been identified as East Palo Alto resident Maka Langi, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Around 9:15 p.m. Saturday, California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a motorcyclist down on northbound Highway 880 near state Highway 237, CHP officials said. Milpitas fire crews found the motorcyclist, later identified as Langi, deceased on a northbound lane before officers arrived, according to the CHP.

A motorist had pulled the motorcycle off the roadway before emergency crews reached the scene, CHP officials said.

A car that collided with the motorcycle and fled the scene is described as a newer black Dodge Charger or Challenger with retro-style wrap around its taillights and possibly has front-end damage, according to the CHP.

Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling at higher speeds than nearby cars prior to the collision, CHP officials said. Investigators do not know whether alcohol or drugs was a factor in collision, according to the CHP.
