Crews Cap Leak That Led To Homes Evacuated In Cupertino

CUPERTINO, CA ā More than two dozen homes were briefly evacuated due to a gas leak in Cupertino this afternoon, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
Crews responded to a reported gas leak in the 10500 block of Gascoigne Drive just west of Lawrence Expressway at about 2:10 p.m., fire department spokeswoman Stephanie Stuehler said.
Construction workers in the area struck a four-inch line that prompted evacuations of roughly 25 homes on Gascoigne Drive, Sterling Boulevard and Barnhart Avenue, Stuehler said.

No injuries were reported, she said.
Evacuated residents were allowed back in their homes around 4:30 p.m., according to Stuehler.

PG&E personnel responded to the scene and capped the line at about 4:10 p.m., utility spokeswoman Mayra Tostado said.
A third-party contractor struck the line with a backhoe, Tostado said.
