Post Date:12/18/2019
Last night, the Cupertino City Council adopted an urgency ordinance, effective through December 31, 2019, that implements tenant eviction protections and limits rental rate increases over 9%. The local ordinance goes into effect immediately and helps avoid circumvention of AB 1482, the Tenant Protection Act of 2019, which takes effect on January 1, 2020.
The City Councilās decision was in response to public comment made at its December 3, 2019, meeting. During oral communications, members of the public stated that some landlords in the region are attempting to evict tenants and significantly increase rents during the brief window ahead of the January 1, 2020 effective date.
