Cupertino House Fire Displaces Family

PG&E had to shut off utilities to the home to allow firefighters to gain control over the fire.

A house fire in Cupertino temporarily displaced three people early this morning, a spokeswoman for the Santa Clara County Fire Department said.

Fire crews responded at 12:06 a.m. to a report of a fire in the 19000 block of Meiggs Lane, fire spokeswoman Stephanie Stuehler said. Stuehler said the fire started on the side yard of the residence and spread into the garage.

It took firefighters roughly 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control, she said.

Three residents were able to get out of the house before fire crews arrived and Stuehler said no injuries were reported.

PG&E shut off utilities to the residence so firefighters could fight the flames safely, Stuehler said.

She said the residents would be able to return home once the utilities are switched back on. The family did not need the assistance of the American Red Cross, she said.

Stuehler did not have an estimate for the damage available this afternoon and said investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
