Farmers' Market Wants Kids to Design New Logo

A March 2 deadline is set for a contest to design the Sunday farmers' market logo.

The West Coast Farmers' Market wants a new logo and is turning to kids ages 4 to 18 to come up with the new design.

The new logo will be for Cupertino's newest farmers' market, which is held Sundays at the Oaks Shopping Center and opened in October, as well as for the association that owns the markets, according to Armando Delgado, art director of Young at Art, which is facilitating the contest.

The original design should reflect an element of a farmers' market or a scene with some relation to the market, such as depiction of a ranch, farm, a basket of fruits and vegetables, or an orchard, he said.

Delgado has done graphic art work for Jerry Lami who runs the farmers' market association in the past and was asked to come up with a new logo. Delgado won a similar type of contest when he was young and wanted to pass along the same opportunity to today's youth and Lami loved the idea, he said.

The contest is broken into three age categories (4 to 8, 9 to 13, and 14 to 18) and each group will have winners.
