FBI Offers $20K Reward In Bay Area Mass Shooting Investigation

MORGAN HILL, CA — The FBI has joined the investigation into last month's mass shooting in unincorporated Morgan Hill and is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information, authorities said.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office announced the partnership Wednesday, saying the FBI will provide additional investigative resources and technical support as detectives continue working to identify the gunmen.

The shooting happened during a pop-up birthday party promoted on social media that drew more than 300 people on July 25 to a rural property along Hale Avenue, authorities said.

Deputies had responded to reports of bottles being thrown at passing vehicles and intoxicated people in the roadway when gunfire erupted as they arrived. One person was killed and six others were wounded, police said.

Sheriff's officials have described the investigation as lengthy and complex. Detectives continue to pursue leads and interview witnesses as they work to identify those responsible.

"With hundreds of people in attendance, someone knows something," said Robert Jonsen, Santa Clara County sheriff. "We've asked for the FBI's assistance, and we are calling on our community to help identify those responsible for this heinous crime."

The FBI has created a dedicated online portal where anyone who attended the party can upload photos, videos or other digital media from the event. Investigators said even footage that does not show the shooting itself could contain valuable evidence.

"Those responsible for this senseless shooting should know that the FBI and our law enforcement partners at the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office will use every available resource to identify and hold them accountable," said Scott Schelble, special agent in charge of the FBI's San Francisco Field Office. "The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 because we believe someone has information that can help move this investigation forward."

Anyone with information can call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. Tips can also be submitted anonymously, and investigators are encouraging anyone who captured photos or video during the party to upload them through the FBI's digital tip portal.
