Foothill-De Anza Targets Sunnyvale For New Education Center

Former Air Force Station in Sunnyvale identified as possible new campus site.

The ongoing search for a permanent site for Foothill-De Anza Community College District's new education center may be coming to an end soon, as the district's Board of Trustees expressed interest in a former Air Force station in Sunnyvale.

Onizuka Air Force Station, located in Moffett Business Park at 1080 Innovation Way in Sunnyvale, is the board's preferred site for the new education center.

The community college district has been searching for a permanent third site in the area for years, and plans on opening a cutting-edge learning facility once a location is finalized.

Foothill College currently operates the district's primary off-campus site, Middlefield Campus, at Cubberley Community Center in Palo Alto. Once the district secures a permanent location for its new education center they hope to continue offering classes at Middlefield Campus.

If the district were to acquire Onizuka Air Force Station, it is estimated to cost $5 million to ready the site for construction and does not impact Foothill or De Anza College's budgets.
