Get Life Jackets On Loan In Cupertino, Santa Clara County

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Going boating? Life jackets are now available to local boaters on a loan basis, a spokesperson for the Cal Fire Santa Clara Unit said in a news release. Jackets can be borrowed for up to three days.

"The process is simple, just provide a California driver’s license and the approximate weight of the person needing the life jacket, complete a form – and save a life," said Cal Fire Santa Clara Unit Spokeswoman Pam Temmermand. "... While this is the peak season for usage, the program is available year-round."

Sponsored by grant funding from the U.S. and California Boats and Waterways Association, the Department of Boating and Waterways has partnered with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Morgan Hill Fire and South Santa Clara County Fire in the life jackets available, Temmermand said.

Life jackets are recommended for anyone near the water or on a boat. Any person on board a personal watercraft or who is being towed behind a vessel on water skis, an aquaplane or similar device must wear a Type I, II, III, or V U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, Temmermand said.

• CALFIRE Santa Clara Unit Station 23 – Stevens Creek, 13326 Stevens Canyon Road, Cupertino
