Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses removable aligners to straighten teeth. Many people prefer this design because it makes it easier to clean teeth, but you may still need to take some precautions to ensure your teeth and the aligners are properly cleaned and maintained. Dr. Mozafari, our Cupertino orthodontist, may give you specific instructions to follow to safeguard your dental health.

1. Remove your aligners when you eat and drink. Do not place your aligner on a tissue or napkin in which it could easily be thrown away. You also should avoid putting it in your pocket where it can be easily broken. Any time your aligner is out of your mouth, put it in its case. Brush and floss your teeth carefully before replacing your aligners.

2. Clean the aligner daily with a soft-bristled brush and toothpaste or with a cleaner made just for that purpose. You can also use a denture cleaner, a method for which Dr. Mozafari can give you specific instructions for a deeper clean.

3. Protect your aligners. Never leave them where pets can get them, and store them away from heat. If you need to sterilize them, let us know. Do not bleach or boil your aligner, but bring it to us so that we can help.
