Mary Avenue Bridge Renamed Don Burnett Bicycle-Pedestrian Bridge
The bridge that Burnett was instrumental in bringing to the community was renamed in his honor.
In a dedication ceremony Saturday morning the Mary Avenue Bridge was renamed Don Burnett Bicycle-Pedestrian Bridge in honor of the former Cupertino City Councilmember and mayor, who was a longtime bicycle advocate.
Burnett, who was a member of Western Wheelers, Almaden Cycle Touring Club and Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, was instrumental in making happen the bicycle-pedestrian bridge that spans Cupertino and Sunnyvale over Highway 280, which opened in April, 2009.
