Pedestrian Struck, Killed In El Camino Real Hit-And-Run: Police

Police say the driver in a fatal Sunnyvale hit-and-run remains at large.

SUNNYVALE, CA — A woman was struck by a car and died Thursday night in Sunnyvale, and authorities are seeking the driver in the fatal hit-and-run. According to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, at about 11:15 p.m., a motorist who had been heading westbound on El Camino Real called police to report seeing a body in the roadway at the intersection of El Camino Real and Maria Lane.

"The pedestrian, a 61-year-old female was transported to the hospital with major injuries," Sunnyvale DPS Capt. Shawn Ahearn said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Officer will release information about her identity, the captain said.

Sunnyvale DPS traffic investigators determined the woman was struck by a vehicle but have no description of that vehicle or its driver, Ahearn said Thursday morning.

Authorities believe the vehicle involved likely has major front-end damage.

"So far no witnesses to the collision have come forward," Ahearn said.

Any witnesses of the hit-and-run collision or anyone with information about the suspect vehicle or driver are urged to call Sunnyvale DPS Lt. Tracy Hern at 408-730-7109.
