Los Gatos Apartment Fire: 6 Displaced

The blaze was on Lark Avenue and visible to drivers Sunday night on Highway 17.

LOS GATOS, CA – Six people were displaced by a fire in a structure near the Lark Avenue exit from southbound state Highway 17 on Sunday night, according to a Santa Clara County Fire Department official.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 16601 Lark Ave. at 9:49 p.m. to reports of smoke in the back of the building, fire spokeswoman Luisa Rapport said.

When firefighters arrived, they found flames spreading in a downstairs apartment. Rapport said two units were damaged by the flames and two others sustained smoke damage.

The fire was visible from the southbound Highway 17 off-ramp, and due to its proximity, the on-ramp and off-ramps were closed in that direction. Rapport said that both ramps were reopened hours later.

No one was injured in the fire, according to Rapport.

The fire department is currently investigating the cause of the fire and had no additional information this afternoon.
