Santa Clara Co. DA Releases Photo Of Suspected Identity Thief

The man allegedly opened several credit cards in the name of an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office released a photo this week of a suspect who used an elderly woman’s identity to open multiple credit cards under her name.

With the woman’s name the suspect secured a credit card, which he used to purchase items at a Home Depot store at 2855 Story Road in San Jose on Dec. 12, 2014, District Attorney Investigator Dennis Brookins said. The victim is an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, Brookins said.

The same card had also been used at a Shell gas station and a dd’s Discounts store, both in San Jose, he said.

The victim’s daughter discovered the fraudulent transaction when she found bills for the card in the mail, according to Brookins.

The daughter canceled the card and notified San Jose police on Jan. 14, according to Brookins. Investigators learned the suspect also opened a Kohl’s department store credit card and five other credit cards under the victim’s name, but there were no charges to those accounts, he said.
