In Santa Clara Co. Through Dec. 31: Avoid Jail, Get New Court Date For Misdemeanor Warrants

Take advantage of "Operation Second Chance."

Continuing through Dec. 31, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with ALL other Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies, will be implementing a special program in which individuals with NON-VIOLENT MISDEMEANOR CRIMINAL and TRAFFIC WARRANTS can receive a citation with a new court date, in lieu of being booked into the County Jail.

ā€œOperation Second Chanceā€ 2015 began Dec. 1.

Individuals can go to ANY Santa Clara County law enforcement agency to receive their warrant citation, which will require a new ā€œPromise to Appearā€ in court date. Operation Second Chance 2015 is directed towards MOST misdemeanor warrants, no matter what the bail is, including those warrants stamped ā€œNo Cite and Release,ā€ and ā€œNo
Bail.ā€

The following warrants DO NOT qualify for this program:
-Felony warrants
-ANY warrant involving violence (including ALL domestic violence warrants)
-ANY warrant involving a firearm
-ANY warrant involving resisting arrest
-ANY warrant involving giving false information to a peace officer

Persons with these types of warrants however, are urged to take this opportunity to turn themselves in so they can take care of their matter in court.

More than 3,100 people have taken advantage of the program over the past 11 years and avoided spending the holidays in jail by self-surrendering.

If you have any questions relating to this program, please contact Sheriff’s Office Records at (408) 808-4717.
