Speech and Debate Camps, August 10-14, 2015

Young Genius, Home of Bay Area Speech and Debate Academy at 14375 Saratoga Ave, CA 95070 www.bayareadebate.com

The YG Summer Session Debate Camps are for students to explore advanced argumentation and advocacy by examining the styles of debate middle schools and high schools in the bay area participate in. In middle school classes we will introduce to beginner debate students: Lincoln Douglas, Congress and Public Forum debate formats and some speech events.

Students will learn how to structure and argue different cases as well as learn how to research evidence to support those cases. They will do more exploration of current events as well as framing arguments in a policymaker context. The class will culminate with a mini-debate and speech in-class tournament. This class allows students to try out different performance opportunities that many middle school and high school speech and debate programs offer. Summer Session Debate Camp is strongly recommended for 4 -5th, 6-8th grade students who are planning on joining their school’s Debate Team or who are interested in being a part of Young Genius Competitive Speech and Debate Team or 8-12 grade students who already on Young Genius or their school’s debate teams.

In week of August 10-14 we still have openings in:
Public Forum Debate and Speech for 6-8 and 9-11 grade from 9am to 4pm
Public Forum Debate for 6-8 and 9-11 grade from 9am to 12pm
