Sunnyvale Seeking New Public Safety Director
Chief Frank Grgurina to retire in December after serving 30 years in law enforcement.

SUNNYVALE, CA ā A search is underway to find Sunnyvale's next director for the Department of Public Safety, city officials said Tuesday.
The next public safety director will be responsible for overseeing 285 personnel in the department that provides police, fire and special operations services, city officials said.
The new appointed official will replace Chief Frank Grgurina, who is set to retire in December after serving 30 years in law enforcement, according to city officials.

Each sworn officer in the department has training in the three divisions, according to city officials.
"The public consistently rates our public safety services very highly and our officers are extremely active and engaged in the community," City Manager Deanna Santana said in a statement.

"Maintaining that strong relationship is why it is essential that we hear from the public about the type of person they want to see leading this highly visible department," Santana said.
The city will work with Bob Murray & Associates, a Roseville-based firm that recruits public safety executives, city officials said. Santana will be reviewing candidates while keeping in mind qualities community members would like to see in the next director, city officials said.
The public can provide their input during a Sept. 6 community meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. at City Council Chambers at 456 W. Olive Ave. or through an online survey that will be available beginning Wednesday at
OpenCityHall.inSunnyvale.com.
