Sunnyvale Trees Catch Fire Near Gas Station, Home
Firefighters kept a strong, eye-catching fire in three or four trees from spreading to a Sunnyvale home and nearby gas station Wednesday.

SUNNYVALE - Firefighters kept a strong, eye-catching fire in three or four trees from spreading to a Sunnyvale home and nearby gas station Wednesday morning, a public safety captain said.
The fire was first reported in cypress treesĀ at 2:16 a.m. on the west property line of the Valero gas station at 1037 Lakehaven Drive, about two blocks from the Lawrence Expressway.
Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. Craig Anderson said trees tend to burn strongly but generally do not burn much beyond their diameters.

"They do look impressive," Anderson said of the burning trees.
The nearby home was the biggest concern for firefighters because it was closer to the fire than the gas station.

No one was injured.
A Honda Civic and a U-Haul truck sustained heat and possibly some fire damage, Anderson said.
The fire was under control at about 2:30 a.m.
The cause and origin are under investigation.
