UPDATE: Motorcyclist Who Died In Hwy 35 Accident was 24

The accident was near Alpine Road.

The 24-year old man who died near State Highway 35 after his motorcycle went off the road Saturday afternoon was a resident of Santa Clara, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The first call to report the crash about a mile south of Alpine Road, near the border between Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, came in at 12:15 p.m., according to the CHP.

The motorcyclist was negotiating a left curve and may have been going too fast, according to CHP Officer Art Montiel.

The victim lost control of the bike, went onto an asphalt and gravel shoulder and then down a slope about 50 feet, Montiel said. The victim, who was wearing a helmet, hit several trees on the way down, Montiel said.

CHP had originally said the man was 26-years-old.
