Woman Killed in Sunnyvale Fire

Officials are using dental records to try to identify the woman killed at a mobile home park.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office is trying to identify a woman killed in a fire at a mobile home park in Sunnyvale on Wednesday night, a Department of Public Safety captain said today.

The office is reviewing dental records in an effort to confirm the woman's name, Capt. David Verbrugge said.

The fire was reported at about 11:30 p.m. after a man walking inside the Plaza del Rey mobile home park at 1225 Vienna Drive spotted flames coming from unit No. 974, Verbrugge said.

When crews arrived, the flames were coming out of the home's windows and doors.

A police officer was able to save a male resident from the burning home, Verbrugge said. That resident was not injured.

The woman's body was found in a bedroom, Verbrugge said. (Patch local editor Jennifer Van Der Kleut reports this was a back bedroom of Unit 974.)

Fire investigators are combing through the charred home to determine what caused the blaze.

Investigators learned that the woman had been a smoker, but the cause of the fire is still not known, Verbrugge said.
