DANVILLE, CA — Some Danville homes could lose power if the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. goes through with a public safety power shutoff Wednesday, police said.

In all, 50,000 NorCal residents and more than 3,000 in Contra Costa County could be in the dark from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the utility and police department. PG&E said it started notifying affected customers Monday in portions of 21 counties about the possible power shutoff.

Affected customers would be in the area of Diablo Road, according to the police department.

PG&E initially forecast 1,850 homes in Danville could be impacted, but the utility adjusted its forecast Tuesday afternoon, meaning fewer homes were in the line of fire, police said.

The possibility of a public safety power shutoff comes as weather officials forecast a particularly dry and windy week ahead. On Tuesday morning the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for most of the Bay Area, including Tri-Valley.
