DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council will discuss whether the town should support a proposed regional funding structure for a large, multi-use event center planned in Dublin.

In December 2024, Visit Tri-Valley selected a site near the Dublin-Pleasanton BART station as the future location of a roughly 100,000-square-foot facility that could host sporting competitions, concerts, trade shows, conferences, and more.

According to a town staff report, Visit Tri-Valley is currently in the process of seeking funding and finalizing a potential Joint Powers Authority structure. It is proposing a Tourism Improvement District that would collect 0.5% of gross revenue from tourism-related businesses around the Tri-Valley, as well as an additional $3 charge on hotel stays. Hotel guests already pay an extra $4 per occupied room night to promote tourism marketing, according to the staff report.

If the proposed structure is approved, Danville businesses are expected to provide roughly 11% of project funding generated through the district. The funding will not affect Danville’s municipal revenue, but local hotels and businesses could face new or increased fees.

Town councilmembers are asked to weigh in on whether the town should support the proposed funding mechanisms and participate in a future Joint Powers Authority related to the project. The staff report does not detail the structure of a future JPA, including obligations and decision-making authority for local cities.
