SigAlert Issued After 7-Vehicle I-680 Crash; Brush Fire Burns Near Sunol

DANVILLE, CA — A seven-vehicle crash temporarily shut down all northbound lanes of I-680 near Danville Thursday afternoon, triggering a SigAlert and causing heavy traffic along the freeway. As of 2:51 p.m., the right lane remained closed.

The crash was first reported around 1:25 p.m. on I-680 northbound just south of Diablo Road, according to a CHP incident log. At 1:37 p.m., fire officials requested that northbound I-680 be shut down, and all lanes were closed by 1:43 p.m.

CHP issued a SigAlert at 1:57 p.m., with lanes 2, 3, and 4 blocked. The Diablo Road on-ramp to northbound I-680 was briefly closed, but reopened after 2:36 p.m. CHP requested six tow trucks and an ambulance. 511.org reported injuries, though this has not been confirmed with CHP.

In a separate incident further south, a 0.17-acre fire is burning right next to northbound I-680 near Koopman Road in Sunol, according to the Watch Duty app. The Sunol fire was burning with a slow rate of speed s of 2 p.m., according to the app. As of 2:43, it is 0.17 acre, and some units have been released from the fire per Incident Command, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. As of 3:20 p.m., traffic is heavy along northbound I-680 near Sunol, but no alerts are in place, according to 511.
