Attorney Who Shot Ex-Girlfriend With BB Gun In Danville Sentenced

Wayne Jerome Johnson, 61, was sentenced Friday for felony convictions of domestic violence and stalking of his ex-girlfriend.

DANVILLE, CA — An Oakland-based civil rights attorney who shot his ex-girlfriend in the face with a BB gun in Danville has been sentenced to six years in state prison.

Wayne Jerome Johnson, 61, was sentenced Dec. 20 for domestic violence and stalking of his ex-girlfriend, both felonies. The violence culminated in a December 2018 Danville incident when he shot her in the face with a BB gun, according to an East Bay Times report.

Superior Court Judge Charles “Ben” Burch called the BB gun attack an “ambush” of a “particularly vulnerable person,” according to the EBT.

In a statement before the court on Dec. 20, Johnson maintained his innocence, according to the EBT.

"I don’t have a pellet gun, I never shot a pellet gun. … I was not there,” Johnson said. He argued that the victim’s nose injury could have been from a pre-existing nasal condition.
