Boys volleyball: Young Wolves fall to NCS power Foothill

San Ramon loses 25-9, 25-18, 25-11 at home

San Ramon Valley high boys volleyball coach Sean Stratton expected a win Thursday night at home.

Their opponent — Foothill — didn't get the message.

The Falcons offensive attack was too much, as they flew over the Wolves three sets 25-9, 25-18, 25-11.

"We're a young team, not that experienced," Stratton said. "My focus for them right now is to play to their potential."

San Ramon Valley (3-12, 1-5 EBAL) showed signs of potential near the end of the match, but by then it was too late.

Joe Grosh led the Wolves with 14 kills and five digs. Brad Chin had 11 assists and two digs, while Ryan Russon notched six digs and two kills.

Stratton said the team wasn't able to able to get any blocks against the Falcons middle, but it played hard.

"We could have done a little better hitting, a little better communicating, but overall we did well," San Ramon Valley's Matt Davis said. "Everything else kind of fell apart or if one (thing) made the connection it would go bad."

Russon thought the team could have used a boost of morale.

"I feel like our energy levels were low," Russon said. "I feel like when we're yelling, intense, and focused on the game, we play harder."

The Wolves will host crosstown rival Monte Vista on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
