Robberies Prompt Reminder From Danville Officials
The Danville Police Department said that a few people buying or selling items were robbed at meet-ups.
DANVILLE, CA — The Town of Danville reports that a few people have been robbed in recent months while meeting up with a person who purported to be interested in buying or selling something.
Instead, said town spokesperson Geoff Gillette, residents are encouraged to use the safe exchange zone — two designated parking spots at the Danville Town offices (510 La Gonda Way) that are covered by video cameras 24/7. The site is next to the police department.
The safe exchange zone was borne in 2017, in response to increasing popularity of online marketplaces where buyers connect with sellers online and meet up in person to complete the transaction.

"Having the Exchange Zone should help prevent residents from being the victim of a crime using a classified ads site," said Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins in 2017. "This should help us continue to convince criminals that Danville is not a good place to operate."
