CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Ever wondered how Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies conduct investigations, carry out search and rescue operations, or patrol local neighborhoods?

The Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for its Spring 2020 Citizen's Academy, according to a Facebook post. The program is modeled after a police academy, but does not train participants to become peace officers. They learn about procedures, coroner's duties, dispatch and more in the series of hands-on classes.

The Citizen's Academy will take place on Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Martinez, from Feb. 12 to April 1. The March 7 class will instead take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
