Danville Announces Musical Double Feature at Village Theatre
On Saturday, May 6, the Village Theatre will screen Hairspray followed by Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

From the Town of Danville: Musicals have long been a staple of entertainment, whether stage or screen, and this May the Village Theatre & Art Gallery will play host to two of the more recent additions to that pantheon.
May 6, 2017 marks the return of Double Feature Films at the theatre, with screenings that honor two modern American musicals that have been produced on stages worldwide, from Broadway to local community theatres. On Saturday, May 6, 2017, the Village Theatre will screen Hairspray followed by Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Hairspray (Rated PG) is a tour de force of joy and optimism set in the socially changing landscape of 1960’s Baltimore. Hitting on themes of acceptance and inclusion, the show follows the life of Tracy Turnblad, a teen who loves to dance and lands a spot on her favorite local TV dance show, despite opposition from a producer who claims that she doesn’t have the right look. When Tracy speaks up in favor of integration on the show, she finds herself swept up in the movement for civil rights and equality.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Rated R) follows rock and roll singer Hedwig as she leads her band on a tour of the United States, telling her life story through a series of performances held at failing seafood restaurants and rarely visited fringe stages at music festivals.
Both films have some mature themes and language; parental guidance is recommended.
