Danville To Host Drug Takeback Day

Danville residents will be able to get rid of expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications.

DANVILLE, CA — Danville police are hosting a drug takeback Saturday. Residents can dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired prescription drugs at Danville Town Offices between 10 and 2 Saturday.

Officials from the Danville Police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will accept pills, and other solids such as patches and liquids in consumer containers. Participants are asked to put the medications in a sealed bag for drop-off. Illicit drugs, intravenous solutions, needles and other sharp objects will not be accepted.

The event, one of many held across the country, is designed to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. In 2019, 9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives, according to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
