Danville HS Student Suffers Major Injuries Following Crash: Reports

A Monte Vista junior is reportedly in critical condition following a fiery crash early Saturday morning.

DANVILLE, CA — Five high school students were hospitalized early Saturday morning following a police chase and fiery crash, numerous outlets reported. One student is in critical condition, according to ABC-7 News.

At around 1 p.m. Saturday morning, a car attempted to run a red light, and a Danville police officer attempted to pull them over at Diablo Road and El Cerro Boulevard, according to a statement from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office.

The car fled east on Diablo Road and onto Blackhawk Road. At the intersection with Camino Tassajara, the car ran a second red light and collided with an oncoming car, the sheriff’s department said. The fleeing car rolled onto its roof and caught fire near a Starbucks.

Emergency crews arrived and took the five occupants of the car to a hospital. The driver of the car, reportedly a junior boy at Monte Vista High School, sustained major injuries. The other four students, reportedly senior girls at Monte Vista who had just graduated, have been released from the hospital as of Monday morning, according to an ABC-7 report.

The Starbucks and the intersection of Camino Tassajara at Crow Canyon Road was closed for several hours Saturday morning, according to NBC Bay Area.
