Danville K-9 Patrol Officer 'Loizo' Turns 2
Happy birthday to this good boy, trained in tracking, scent detection, searches and criminal apprehension.

DANVILLE, CA — Join the community in wishing Danville Police Department K-9 Officer "Loizo" a happy 2nd birthday!
This very, very good and handsome boy is a familiar fixture in Danville as he patrols town streets, along with his human partner, Officer Neabeack.
Loizo is a Czech-bred Belgian Malinois — a breed often confused with German Shepherds as they look slightly similar, but are a different breed and generally are smaller and leaner.

Among his patrol duties, Loizo is trained to aid in apprehension of suspects, searching buildings and open spaces, finding articles with fresh human scent and tracking such subjects as missing children and felons, police said.
"Usually the mere presence of a K-9 will gain compliance out of otherwise unruly people," the agency said. "Loizo is a great public-relations outlet and does dozens of demonstrations each year. As with many K-9's, Loizo can be very social in the right setting."

When Loizo is not on the job, he loves to swim and play fetch, the department added.
