Danville Man Cuffed After Car & Foot Chase, Helicopter & K-9 Search

DANVILLE, CA – A Danville man was arrested Tuesday afternoon, following two school lockdowns, a vehicle pursuit, foot chase, a helicopter search and K-9 officers, after police attempted to serve the 39-year-old with a felony no-bail warrant for auto theft, officials said.
The Danville Police Department attempted to serve Jesus Martinez on the 200 block of Ashley Circle in Danville. Martinez initially was not home when officers arrived, but did return as they were there and immediately fled in his vehicle, Police Chief Steve Simpkins said.
A pursuit began, however, Hernandez ditched his vehicle and ran off on foot in the 200 block of Stone Valley Way in Alamo.

A search of that neighborhood was launched involving Danville officers and K-9 unit, Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office deputies, along with the Sheriff’s Office helicopter, police said. Stone Valley Middle School and Dorris-Eaton Preschool in Danville were placed in a precautionary modified lockdown with students able to be released to parents, police said.
A Danville police dog located Hernandez, who was arrested, transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment of minor injuries received during the capture and booked at the Martinez Detention Facility, police said.

He is being held on the auto theft warrant, as well as additional charges of suspected felony evading, felony evading a police officer by driving the opposite direction in traffic, resisting arrest, possession of dangerous drugs, and probation violation.
