Danville Mayor Installation Ceremony Scheduled For Tuesday

The ceremony at the Village Theatre will install the mayor and vice mayor, and present community service awards and staff recognition.

DANVILLE, CA — The Danville community is invited to the 41st annual Town of Danville Mayor’s Installation and Community Service Awards.

On Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Village Theatre, Vice Mayor Robert Storer and Councilmember Karen Stepper, who both ran unopposed for another four-year council term, will be sworn in for four-year terms. The council will select a new vice mayor at the end of the ceremony. Mayor Newell Arnerich, who is currently serving his seventh term of Danville mayor, will join the council in selecting a new mayor and vice mayor.

The ceremony will also recognize outgoing Parks, Recreation and Arts Commissioner Alesia Strauch, and outgoing Heritage Resource Commissioner Mike Ammann.

A number of city staff and elected officials will also be recognized for their years of service:

  • Mark Belotz and Lou Palandrani (4 years)
  • Chris Trujillo and Alesia Strauch (8 years)
  • Randall Diamond and Jerry Warren (12 years)
  • G. Mark Graham, Jim Powers and Karen Stepper (20 years)
  • Robert Combs (28 years)
  • Newell Arnerich (32 years)

Award winners for the Danville Award and Michael K. Shimansky Community Service Award will also be announced. Danville Poet Laureate Madeleine Roytfeld will recite two poems about Danville: one that she wrote, and one written by Elaine Betts.

The ceremony will also feature a recitation of the Star-Spangled Banner by the San Ramon Valley High School Chamber Singers, and invocations by Rabbi Dan Goldblatt of the Beth Chaim Congregation and Pastor Steve Harms of the Peace Lutheran Church.

Seating will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Videos of the ceremony will be aired on the town website and on Comcast channel 26 and AT&T UVerse channel 99 on the following dates:

  • Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
  • Monday, Dec. 19 at 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, Dec. 22 at 10 a.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 2 p.m.
