ALAMEDA COUNTY — Hundreds of law enforcement personnel from all over Northern California are escorting the Special Olympics torch—called the Flame of Hope—throughout their local communities in a relay run across Northern California to the 2019 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games in Davis. Monday is the Tri-Valley's turn to carry the flame during the Northern California Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, Livermore, Danville and East Bay Regional Parks police departments are each scheduled to carry the torch Monday as part of the Alameda County leg of the run. Livermore police will be first up at 10 a.m. (they were handed the torch Friday from the Tracy Police Department). Livermore will then hand off to EBRP police around 10:30 a.m.; Pleasanton police will get the handoff from EBRP around 11:30 a.m. Next up will be the Pleasanton-to-Dublin transfer around 12:30 p.m. Dublin will then handover to San Ramon police, who will handoff to the Danville Police Department. Danville is the agency tasked with keeping the torch safe overnight before the 7 a.m. handoff to Alameda police Tuesday. And on the legs will go until the torch reaches it final destination—Davis—on June 21.

The run is raising thousands of dollars for Special Olympics athletes. Approximately 770 athletes, along with 285 coaches, will compete in the 2019 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games June 21-23, which are the culminating competition for the spring sports season. Athletes from all over Northern California will compete in bocce, swimming, tennis, or track and field.
