Danville Town Meeting Hall To Receive Commemorative Plaque

The building was the birthplace of the Community Presbyterian Church Danville.

DANVILLE, CA — The Heritage Resource Commission is unveiling a historic plaque on the Town Meeting Hall during a ceremony Friday afternoon. The meeting hall is the former home of Danville Presbyterian Church, known today as the Community Presbyterian Church (CPC) Danville. CPC is the oldest church in Contra Costa County.

"When this church was founded back in 1865, the hope was for it to be a beacon for this community - that this church would serve and love the people in this valley," said Jeremiah Ramer, CPC's Minister of Outreach. "That same spirit from 150 years ago has guided this church through the generations and it still does today."

Town of Danville Principal Planner David Crompton said the plaque for Danville Presbyterian Church continues a series of dedications designed to highlight the rich architectural history to be found throughout Danville.

"Many of the buildings in Danville have a deep backstory that is intrinsic to the fabric of the Town," Crompton said. "The plaques provide a sense of place and the historical context of these sites."

Prior to being built in 1875, the church was originally known as Contra Costa Presbyterian Church, and was formed by a group of pioneer residents of the San Ramon Valley in 1865.
