Danville Youth Wins 2016 Contra Costa County Youth Hall of Fame Award

Danville Youth Wins 2016 Contra Costa County Youth Hall of Fame Award

At the Contra Costa County sponsored 23rd annual Cesar E. Chavez Commemorative Celebration and Youth Hall of Fame Awards, Christopher Hou, a Danville resident and 11th grader at Monte Vista High School, was named the Contra Costa County Youth Hall of Fame 2016 Cesar E. Chavez Outstanding Youth Honoree by the County Board of Supervisors and the 2016 Cesar E. Chavez Committee on March 29, 2016. In addition, both Christopher and his sister, Elizabeth Hou, a 10th grader at Monte Vista High School and nominee for the Youth Hall of Fame, received Special Congressional Recognition Certificates for their achievements and valuable contributions to the community from US Congressmen Mark DeSaulnier and Mike Thompson, as well as from California State Legislature Assembly member Catherine Baker.

This year's celebration included a "Youth Hall of Fame," which recognized outstanding Contra Costa County residents between the ages of 12 and 18. The Board of Supervisors and the Cesar Chavez Commemorative Celebration Committee selected one winner in each of the following categories: Volunteerism, Good Samaritan, School and/or Sports Leadership, and Artistic skill. But Christopher was awarded in a newly created category for “representing youth who have demonstrated the qualities of a youth leader as a Good Samaritan, Valliant Volunteer, School Leadership, Sports Leadership, and Artiste, and has identified and solved a need in the community” (Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa County, California Resolution Number 2016/119).

Lauren Furman, a senior at Monte Vista High School, and Lindsey Parnas, a senior at San Ramon Valley High School, were also winners in the categories of Artiste and School Leadership, respectively.
